Stop! That is not what your hospitality linen is for.
It may seem harmless: using a towel to wipe down the shower. But it wasn’t intended for that purpose and will therefore wear out faster. A waste of the towel of course, but also not very beneficial to the environment. Unfortunately, we often see housekeeping not using the linen for its intended purpose. We will give you a few examples and explain the consequences.
1.The door stopper
How convenient, placing a towel underneath the door to prop it open! This way, it catches much more and different dirt. That is not what it was intended for and will cause wear and tear faster. Wasteful and not sustainable!
2. The silver polish rag
Bath linen is frequently used to wipe dry the shower, bath, mirror and washbasin after they have been cleaned. Sometimes, housekeeping will do so to save on cleaning rags, but it actually does not work. It is not very hygienic. Besides that, cleaning products can leave nasty stains, how contradictory that may sound. Also, there’s not much cleanliness in using towels during cleaning when those towels have already been used by guests.
3. The cleaning rag
Bath linen is frequently used to wipe dry the shower, bath, mirror and washbasin after they have been cleaned. It is not very hygienic. Besides that, cleaning products can leave nasty stains, how contradictory that may sound.
4. The picnic basket
It is not uncommon for the laundry company to find complete meals in the table linen, along with cups and plates. Not good for the crockery, of course, but also not very good for the linen. Especially when there are (colored) paper napkins left as well, as these tend to stain the linen. Those stains are very hard to remove.
5. The mop
Downgrading the math mat to a mop may seem fast and efficient. However, in doing so, sweeping dirt and stray hairs collect in the mat, causing the linen to wear out quicker, pierce holes in the mat and cause stains that cannot be removed anymore. Wasteful and not sustainable!
